Character Analysis
Character Analysis Paper Options - Between Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice and Nora Helmer from A Doll's House, who is a stronger female lead character and why?
- Choose two or three male characters from Pride and Prejudice and/or A Doll's House and compare their treatment of women to how women should be treated. You may argue that they are doing it right or wrong, and you can comare society then to today.
- Who would be worse to be married to between Torvald from A Doll's House and Mr. Collins from Pride and Prejudice and why? This should be a comparison of character flaws that lead to them being seen as men a woman would not want to be married to.
- Write a letter five years after Elizabeth's marriage from Elizabeth to Lady Catherine detailing the Darcy family life, as well as that of the Bingleys and the Wickhams. Be sure to use the appropriate tone and content for the intended audience.
- (VIDEO OPTION-choose one) A. Create a video mash-up of a character or couple from Pride and Prejudice. This is done with scenes from the film matched to a song that relates to the character. Appropriate scene choice, cuts, and lyrical relevance will be graded. B. Create an original rap or other song about a character from either Pride and Prejudice or A Doll's House. C. Produce a video depicting life after "happily ever after" in the Darcy home (20 years after marriage). How they behave should be based on what we've seen so far from Elizabeth and Darcy, as well as evidence from their families and friends.
- Paragraph 1--State the stance you are taking. List the text(s) you will be using and (in general) how they fit. Use a hook to capture the reader's attention. (20%)
- Paragraph 2-?--Go through each story/media clip and how it proves your point, or have each paragraph relate to a specific argument with multiple stories proving that argument. Either way, you'll need at least two paragraphs, and the topic (first) sentence should relate back to thesis. (60%)
- Last Paragraph--Conclusion. Not just a recap, but a chance to look to the future, personalize, add philosophy, tie the themes together, strong imagery, etc. (20%)
- All paragraphs should be written with clarity and focus, as well as use proper spelling, grammar, and appropriate word choice. Cite the stories where your examples come from (you should have at least six instances when you cite a text).
