 Elementary Researched Cultural Literacy Book

In this assignment, you will re-write a work of literature as a children’s book. You are creating a result that would be suitable for children (1st – 4th grade). Your topic choices include any of the novels we’ve read, as well as works by authors discussed in cultural literacy. However, you cannot use children's stories or films as your own.  This assignment will fulfill your research component and your informational speech component.

Your book will include the following:

  • A cover that is appropriate and attention-getting
  • An informational foreword or introduction, wherein you will demonstrate research you have done (2+ parenthetical in-text citations). Include items about author, story, audience, or other relavant information.
  • A book / story of no less than 6 pages and no more than 20 pages, approximately 2-5 pages of normal 12 point font writing
  • Images used to enhance the reading (or other special-effects)
  • A works cited page, including citations for images. Parenthetical citations in text. (two) Use Easybib to help you with MLA formating.
Note: Pages do not constitute full pages of written text. The font should be large, and images should be used on most if not all pages.

Research can come from:

  •  the text you are summarizing or investigating
  • an article about the story, topic, or author
  • a review of the texta film
  • a personal interview
  • the Dictionary of Cultural Literacy
  • any source that helps you to explain or tell the story
